The 2013 unofficial municipal election results are in and there are changes abound in the Town of Bonnyville and Village of Glendon, while the MD of Bonnyville has just one new councillor on board and the City of Cold Lake remained status quo.

The Town of Bonnyville will have its first new mayor in over seven years, as Coun. Gene Sobolewski edged out incumbent Ernie Isley and Brent Boulrice for the top seat on council. Sobolewski was elected with 499 votes, while Isley received 375 and Boulrice received 131.

Town council will have one new councillor on board, as newcomer Nestor Kunec will join incumbents Ray Prevost, Lorna Storoschuk, John Irwin, Rene Van Brabant and Jim Cheverie in representing the town for the next four years.

In the MD of Bonnyville, Reeve Ed Rondeau will be returning to his seat on council after picking up 1,306 votes, defeating challenger Erwin Thompson who pulled in 664 votes. As for the rest of council, all incumbents will be returning to their seat on council, except for retiring Ward 5 councillor Glen Johnson, who was replaced by Dana Swigart (acclaimed).

In Ward 1, incumbent Don Sinclair was re-elected with 312 votes, while challenger Werner Gisler received 100 votes. In Ward 2, incumbent David Fox was re-elected with 277 votes, while challengers Lionel Campeau received 159 votes and Jerry Germain received 144 votes. In Ward 6, incumbent Fred Bamber was re-elected with 329 votes, while challenger Delano Toley received 73.

The Village of Glendon will have an all-new council for the next four years, as newcomers Laura Papirny, Peter Doonanco and Nancy Pelletier were elected with 130 votes, 109 votes and 84 votes respectively.

Incumbent Willie Moleschi received 70 votes, Michael Drader received 54 votes and the other incumbent Rick Steiben received 52 votes.

The three new councillors will now select amongst themselves one councillor to become the new village mayor.

Cold Lake city council will remain status quo for the next four years, as Bob Buckle, Duane Lay, Vicky Lefebvre, Darrell MacDonald, Kelvin Plain, and Chris Vining will all be returning to their seats on council, while challenger Debra Pelechosky fell short of being elected. Mayor Craig Copeland was acclaimed last month.

Plain led in votes, receiving 978, while Vining received 854, Lefebvre received 851, Duane Lay received 806, MacDonald received 789, Buckle received 758 and Pelechosky received 630.

Election results will become official in four days. Check next week's Nouvelle for official results and extended election coverage.
