Auction and barbecue raises money for Bonnyville soup kitchen

Bonnyville’s World Financial Group (WFG) decided to step up and host a barbecue and auction in order to raise funds for the Heart 2 Heart and Street Heart Mission, non-profits associated with the Alliance Church.

BONNYVILLE – Bonnyville’s World Financial Group (WFG) decided to step up and host a barbecue and auction in order to raise funds for the Heart 2 Heart and Street Heart Mission, non-profits associated with the Alliance Church.

The event was hosted on June 28 at the WFG Bonnyville location, and had the grills fired up outside with the auction inside.

Shereen Hook with the WFG, said they were blown away by the “phenomenal” community support they received for this fundraiser, that came together in about two weeks and raised $3,429.

Heart 2 Heart operates the Heart 2 Heart Second Chance Fashion in Bonnyville, which is a charity thrift shop. They also have established the Street Heart Soup Kitchen, and their mission statement says, “At Street Heart Mission, we reach out to the homeless and those in need with the love of Jesus. We offer soup, sandwich, free clothing and personal hygiene items.”

“We went into Heart 2 Heart when they had a barbecue for their grand opening. I’m a giver by nature – that’s why I’m working in this company – our mission is: no family left behind. And I just thought we had to do something . . . So I said, we’re going to do a live auction . . . Whatever we raise today is going towards a shower, washer, and dryer at the Street Heart Mission soup kitchen – or whatever else they need. I suspect we are going to exceed our fundraising goal,” said Hook.

Crystal Richardson with the WFG said they “saw a need in the community and decided to help.”

“Sheeren’s willingness to help shines through and her great organizational skills are making this team effort come alive,” said Richardson

Street Heart Mission welcomes volunteers to come and serve or prepare meals, and donations of non-perishable food items are welcomed.
