Students at Bonnyville Centralized High School (BCHS) will be stepping out onto the stage this week as they present their very own production of ‘Fame the Musical' at the Lyle Victor Albert Centre.

The 40-strong production crew will be performing the two hour-long show on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with Director Nicole Baker encouraging members of the community to attend.

“It's going to be a great few nights,” Baker said. “The kids have worked so hard preparing themselves and I know it's going to be a good play. Anyone will be able to enjoy it.”

Preparations for the play have been ongoing for six months, with initial auditions held in September. Baker said she was so pleased with the talent she had at her disposal that she decided to tackle a production as ambitious as Fame.

“I knew that I had a very talented cast to work with this year,” Baker said. “Lots of plays we've done in the past typically have one or two leads – but Fame has lots. It will allow our students to stand out and show what they are good at. That's why we decided to do Fame.”

The musical is set in the 1980s and focuses on the lives of teenagers attending a high school for the performing arts and the issues they have to deal with.

Baker is hopeful that the show will be a hit with the public, saying it's a unique production that people of all ages can enjoy.

“There's going to be a little bit of everything – tonnes of singing, obviously some acting and the most dance we've ever done in a production here,” Baker said. “And like I said before, we have a lot of talent in this years play, so there will be people playing different instruments too. It's going to be a lot of fun.”
