LAKELAND - Just a few days before the start of the 2025-26 school year, young students who will be attending Northern Lights Public Schools (NLPS) schools in the Lakeland will be given the opportunity to get acquainted with their school bus and bus drivers.

‘Meet the Bus’ is scheduled to take place on Aug. 28 at schools across the division.

According to information from NLPS, transportation staff will be visiting schools in Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Ardmore, and Lac La Biche to introduce new riders to the school bus.

“Meet the Bus helps to decrease students' anxiety about taking the bus to and from school by providing them with an opportunity to meet a bus driver, get a tour of the bus, learn bus rules, take a short ride, and ask any questions they have,” says Nicole Garner, the communications and public relations manager for NLPS.

“This is something we have been doing for several years now, primarily at our elementary schools as the majority of our new riders are Kindergarten and elementary school students,” she explains.

According to information from NLPS, prior registration is not a requirement to participate in any of the ‘Meet the Bus’ sessions. While the program is aimed primarily at kindergarten students, any students who have not taken the bus before are welcome to attend.
