Bonnyville RCMP is investigating after a female body was located on the shores of Moose Lake on Saturday afternoon.
Local RCMP were dispatched to Moose Lake at about 4 a.m. on Saturday morning after being notified of a swimmer who didn't return from an evening swim. Officers, with support from the canine unit, began searching the beach and patrolling the waters.
At approximately 1:35 p.m. on Saturday afternoon the body of the female was located on the shores of Moose Lake.
"We have indentified her, but at the request of the family we won't be releasing her information. She is an Edmonton resident and she was in the Bonnyville area visiting friends," said Bonnyville RCMP Staff Sergeant Luis Gandolfi.
"As far as the cause of death, we have checked in with the medical examiner and usually with these types of things there are toxicology examinations that have to be done. As it stands so far, there is nothing inconsistent with a typical drowning."
Gandolfi said he would generally advise against residents swimming at night, as it can be "problematic."
"Based on the time of day that she went missing and the fact that she was out swimming at that time; it was a little problematic in that you don't know what could happen in the dark like that," said Gandolfi.
"With the water temperatures being where they are, certainly it is not a place for a human to be for an extended period of time. Eventually it will zap some heat and energy from your body and if you are too far from shore then you might run into problems."
