Bonnyville FCSS is hosting a clothing drive to help families with the financial stress of back-to-school shopping.

BONNYVILLE – Bonnyville and District Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is helping make back to school shopping less stressful for parents by hosting a clothing drive.

Donations can be dropped off on Aug. 12 between 12 noon to 7 p.m. at the St. Louis Parish Hall on 49th avenue.

People can pick up clothing free of charge from the St. Louis Parish Hall, on Aug. 13 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., or on Aug. 14th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

Community programmer Aleesha Cabay reports that over 200 people attended the back-to-school clothing drive last year, so it highlighted a need in the community that FCSS could fill.

“Back-to-school season is an expensive time for families with all the school supplies, so if we can help out with the clothes that’s one less expense for them,” said Cabay.

Donations should be clean, gently used, and wearable, clothing and backpacks. Child, youth, and teen clothes, as well as adult clothing is accepted, as many teens wear adult sized clothing.

FCSS sets out to alleviate the stress of rising costs, and the inconvenience of having to drive to the city for back-to-school shopping.

“There aren't many [shopping] options around the area for low-income families at the moment, and there's lots of families struggling.”

The clothing drive is open to anyone who could use some back-to-school clothes.

“We will have all the donations sorted. Bags are provided, just come on in,” said Cabay.
