Bonnyville RCMP charge, arrest male following stabbing

Local RCMP have charged a 51-year-old man in relation to a stabbing on April 28.

Bonnyville RCMP have arrested and charged 51-year-old Leonard Floyd Cardinal with aggravated assault following a stabbing April 28.

BONNYVILLE - Leonard Floyd Cardinal, 51 of Bonnyville, has been charged with aggravated assault in relation to an April 28 stabbing.

Bonnyville RCMP were called to a residence at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday after a male was stabbed multiple times.

Officers arrived along with emergency medical services. The 27-year-old victim was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. According to RCMP, he remains in the hospital.

Further investigation led RCMP to search a local residence where Cardinal was located and arrested.

"For public safety, a portion of the roadway was closed off for approximately one hour while police conducted their investigation. A search warrant was subsequently conducted at a residence where evidence was seized in relation to this investigation," an RCMP press release stated.

There is no further concern for the public's safety and traffic has resumed in the area.

Cardinal was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and was released with conditions to appear in court on May 18.
