BONNYVILLE - The investigation is ongoing into a break-in at a rural residence that resulted in thousands of dollars worth of items stolen.

Bonnyville RCMP received a call from the property owner on Aug. 20, stating that his residence on Highway 659 was broken into sometime between 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 19 and 6 a.m. on Aug. 20. An estimated $2,000 to $3,000 worth of items were stolen during the break-in.

Several large garages on the property had their locks broken off or the doors pried open.

Officers attended the residence, photographed the scene, and seized potential evidence that was left behind at the scene. The evidence is awaiting forensic examination.

The investigation is ongoing.

Citizen reports impaired driver

A citizen called Bonnyville RCMP on Aug. 15 to report an impaired driver who was travelling on 55th St. (Gurneyville) into the Town of Bonnyville.

Members found the vehicle on 55th St. and Lakeshore Dr. in town. The driver blew a fail on the roadside screening device and was transported to the detachment to provide samples, which were over the legal limit.

The driver was released with paperwork to attend court in Bonnyville.

Driver provides fake name to police

RCMP conducted a roadside stop just before 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 19 with a vehicle that was displaying a license plate not registered to the vehicle.

The driver had no identification and no insurance. He provided a fake name to police, and was detained for identification.

RCMP later confirmed him to be a 34-year-old man from Cold Lake.

He was arrested and charged with obstruction, failing to comply with release conditions, multiple tickets, and the vehicle was towed.

Stolen debit card used around town

A complainant attended the Bonnyville detachment on Aug. 19 to report that her lost debit card had been used at various locations in Bonnyville before she was able to cancel it.

The investigation is ongoing and video surveillance is being sought to identify the suspect.
