Bonnyville RCMP Report: Local detachment taking extra steps amid COVID-19 concerns

RCMP REPORT

BONNYVILLE - Bonnyville RCMP is taking extra precautions amid COVID-19 concerns.

COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus, is spread through human-to-human contact, and as of Monday morning, 56 cases were reported in Alberta. While none have been confirmed in the Alberta Health Services North Zone, which encompasses the Town and MD of Bonnyville and City of Cold Lake, the local RCMP is taking extra measures in order to prevent spreading the disease.

"As first responders, we need to be prepared to deal with any situation in the public, so we're practicing good hygiene, we've been reviewing procedures that we would normally do such as fingerprinting... We're now developing policies on how we will go forward from here," stated Sgt. Kim Hillier of the Bonnyville RCMP detachment.

Officers respond to suspicious behaviour

Just after 2 p.m. on March 10, local RCMP received a complaint of someone attempting to break into the front door of a condo building on 51 St.

According to the caller, an unknown male was lurking around the parkade pulling on vehicle door handles.

Nothing was reported stolen, however, police are wanting to speak to the male.

Anyone with any information relating to this incident is encouraged to contact the Bonnyville RCMP detachment at 780-343-7200.

Stolen truck recovered

A truck that had been reported stolen at 3:45 p.m. on March 11 was recovered in Elk Point.

Local RCMP were contacted after a Chevy Silverado with a Polaris Switchback Assault snowmobile in the box of the truck was stolen.

Although police recovered the truck in Elk Point, the snowmobile is still outstanding. It's been described as factory red with black decals.

Anyone who may have information about the theft is asked to reach out to RCMP at 780-343-7200.
