Bonnyville RCMP Report: Officers kept busy with multiple thefts

RCMP REPORT

BONNYVILLE - The Bonnyville RCMP are looking for tips from the public after a theft at REDA Enterprises.

The complainant called the local detachment on April 24 to report the cables used to run a crusher had been cut and stolen for the copper.

While they were unsure if anything else was missing, Bonnyville RCMP Sgt. Kim Hillier said fortunately there is video surveillance of the area and they're in the process of reviewing the footage.

"Investigation is ongoing and the Bonnyville RCMP would appreciate any reports of tips of activity the public may have noted."

The RCMP also received a complaint around 3:30 p.m. that same day that approximately $3,000 worth of cables were stolen from an oilfield site sometime over the past week.

"Anyone with any information on these ongoing cable thefts who want to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers and provide the information in confidentiality," said Hillier.

Crime Stoppers can be reached at 1-800-222-8477 or you can contact the Bonnyville RCMP detachment at 780-343-7200.

DNA left at crime scene

Police are hoping blood left on a vehicle will help them track down a suspect.

Officers received a call for mischief on April 26 from a resident who reported the windows of their vehicle had been smashed and the steering column was damaged. When RCMP arrived, they located blood on the driver door, steering wheel, and dash.

The vehicle was towed to the detachment for a forensic identification exam. The investigation is ongoing, pending possible DNA results.

Owner wakes up to break and enter

A rural resident got a rude awakening on April 28, when she heard three loud bangs coming from her shop.

The complainant told police she was able to see at least a couple of figures inside the shop, located on the rural property off of Hwy. 28 near Range Rd. 480.

Within 15 minutes, she saw a red sedan, which was in the shop, being driven off of the property and heading east on Hwy. 28.

RCMP members were on their way to the property when they spotted the sedan on Hwy. 28 and Range Rd. 474.

"Members tried to close the distance but were unable to apprehend the suspects at the time," Hillier stated.

Ford Focus reported stolen

A complainant called RCMP on April 24 to report his car had been stolen from the Duclos Arms area in town.

It's described as a 2013 grey Ford Focus with body damage.

The vehicle is still outstanding, and the RCMP are asking the public to call 911 if they notice the vehicle around their property.
