Bonnyville RCMP Report: Quad passenger suffers head injuries in impaired driving accident

BONNYVILLE - The driver of a quad is facing impaired driving charges after an accident that left a male passenger with "extensive head injuries."

Bonnyville RCMP were called to assist EMS with a quad accident in the rural Bonnyville area on July 15 around 1:30 p.m.

The driver of the quad, a 48-year-old Kehewin man, was found to be intoxicated. He was transported to the detachment where his provided samples over the legal limit.

He was charged with multiple impaired operation related offences. The male passenger was transported to Edmonton and is recovering from his injuries.

Man arrested after climbing light post

The local RCMP received multiple complaints about a man causing a disturbance in downtown Bonnyville on July 10.

One complainant reported that the male was climbing a light post outside of a business, and yelling and swearing at people.

Officers located and identified the 27-year-old Kehewin man, who was arrested after a brief foot chase.

He was released by a Justice of the Peace and will appear in Bonnyville court to face seven criminal code charges including mischief, obstruction, failing to comply, and assault on a police officer.

Resident gets tires shot out

RCMP were called to a residence on July 11 after a complainant reported a man shot out his tire with a rifle.

The male, who is known to the complainant, tried to shoot out a second tire but the gun misfired.

Members attended and obtained video footage from after the first shot, showing the suspect manipulating the firearm in an attempt to shoot the vehicle a second time.

A 65-year-old Bonnyville man has been charged with multiple firearms offences in relation to this incident.

Fire at old school

An arson investigation is ongoing after officers were called to a fire at the old school in Truman in the MD of Bonnyville.

Firefighters had the fire under control when police arrived on July 11. A witness stated he saw a black vehicle driving on Range Rd. 485A but wasn't sure if it was related to the fire.

Drunk drive-thru

On July 14, just before 2 a.m., a complainant called Bonnyville RCMP to report an intoxicated driver at the McDonald's drive-thru.

Members located the suspect vehicle and the driver, a 24-year-old woman from Edmonton, blew a fail on the roadside screening device. She was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and taken to the detachment where she provided breath samples over the legal limit.

The woman was released with a court date in Bonnyville.

Stolen bank cards used around town

Bonnyville RCMP received a call on July 10 from a man who had his bank card stolen from his truck and used at several locations around town.

The complainant reported transactions on his card, which police are continuing to follow up on to try and identify the suspect.
