Bonnyville RCMP Report
Bonnyville RCMP Report

BONNYVILLE – Bonnyville RCMP are reminding the public not to give out personal information following a report of fraud.

“A complainant called reporting she received a call this morning from someone claiming they were WalMart Mastercard and that her account was compromised,” said Bonnyville RCMP Sgt. Kim Hillier.

According to RCMP, the call was made from 1-606-653-2624 and the suspect gave the name John #jn1997.

“Unfortunately, the complainant provided personal details to the caller that could compromise her identity,” Hillier noted, adding the complainant felt uncomfortable with the call and phoned the number on the back of her card.

“She was told that the company had no record of issues with her card nor the call to her. Scams like this are very difficult to investigate and are referred to the anti-fraud division. It’s a stark reminder to never give out personal details over the phone.”

Hillier stressed the importance of not giving out personal information and not to purchase Google Play cards or prepaid Visas to pay off fraudsters.

“No legitimate company needs all of your personal information nor will you ever have to pay a fee or overdue bill using prepaid cards of any sort. Hang up the phone and call the police to report the phone number and the details of the scam.”

Assault suspect flees from police

Bonnyville RCMP received a report of an assault that had occurred and the complainant also stated one of the people involved was possibly in possession of a stolen vehicle.

Members attended the scene and located the stolen vehicle. While attempting to locate and speak with the suspects, they ran to the stolen vehicle and fled from the police.

“The member pursued the suspects and, after assistance from multiple other members and the Police Dog Service (PDS) Unit, the suspects were located and arrested,” stated Hillier.

Crystal Moosepayo, 40, and Darryl Fontaine, 40, both of Kehewin were bought before a justice of the peace. Moosepayo was released on $50 cash bail and Fontaine was remanded into custody to appear in Bonnyville court on Jan. 26.

Traffic stop leads to drug charges

No taillights lead an Elk Point man being arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

A Bonnyville member conducted a traffic stop on Jan. 11 on a vehicle with no tail lights. While interacting with the driver, the officer saw a bag of what appeared to be methamphetamine on the dashboard in plain view.

The driver, Justin Sumner of Elk Point, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

“The investigation resulted in a seizure of approximately 50-grams of suspected methamphetamine,” Hillier said.

Sumner was held for a judicial interim release hearing and will appear in court in Bonnyville on Jan. 26.

Prohibited weapon

“A member was patrolling Hwy. 660 when he stopped a vehicle with no registration. The driver was found to be suspended, had no insurance, and a prohibited firearm was found in the vehicle during an inventory search. The driver was arrested and released roadside with a court day in Bonnyville," according to RCMP.

Suspects attempt to enter truck

A complainant called the RCMP to report on Jan. 12 that two unknown females were entering his truck. When he confronted the pair, they took off in a red Chevrolet Tahoe.

“Unfortunately, the complainant wasn’t able to get the license plate number,” Hillier noted. “There was no damage to the vehicle and nothing was stolen.”

The incident occurred on 43rd Ave., near 40th St. in Bonnyville.
