Bonnyville RCMP Report: Resident returning home finds break and enter in progress

BONNYVILLE - A Bonnyville resident returned home from a weekend away to find a man inside holding a 22 calibre rifle.

The homeowner returned to their residence on Lakeshore Dr. June 1 just before 5 p.m. to find that the front door had been damaged. The owner went inside and, after finding the male holding a firearm, left the home and called police. 

RCMP arrived and found the male suspect, 34-year-old Derek Watchmaker, still inside the residence.

Watchmaker was arrested and charged with break and enter to a dwelling, theft of firearms, and other firearms offences.

He was taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody.

Attempted sale of stolen van

On May 29 a complainant called RCMP to report a suspicious male trying to sell him a stolen van for $100 in Kehewin.

Bonnyville RCMP executed a search warrant and located a stolen van, along with a small amount of suspected cocaine and a fake $100.

Charges are pending against a 37-year-old man from Kehewin.

Break-in at Muriel Lake

Bonnyville RCMP received a report from a Muriel Lake homeowner on May 31 that someone had broken into his residence.

The suspect stole a chainsaw, and damaged a UTV side-by-side, an ATV, as well as the inside of the residence.

The investigation is ongoing.

Driver arrested after refusing roadside screening test

On May 31 around 3 p.m., officers were called to a traffic hazard and possible impaired driver.

When they arrived on scene, police took the suspect into custody. He was arrested after refusing the roadside alcohol screening device.

Multiple charges were laid against the 37-year-old Bonnyville man and he was released to appear in court.

Break and enter to Glendon Korner Mart

The investigation into a break and enter at the Glendon Korner Mart is ongoing, and police are asking for tips from the public.

On June 2 just after 1 a.m., the Bonnyville RCMP received a report about a break and enter to the Korner Mart. A member attended and cleared the building, finding damage to a window from the suspect trying to gain entry.

Attempted truck theft

A citizen called Bonnyville RCMP on May 29 to report that his truck, a grey 2002 Ford Conventional, was broken into while parked outside his residence on the 54 block of 51 St.

The suspect punched the lock out on the passenger side door and removed the ignition in an attempt to steal the vehicle.
