BNV.19.18.12.RCMP Town Hall

BONNYVILLE – Bonnyville RCMP have made an arrest after an ambulance was stolen.

Tyler Todd Day, 28, was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property obtained through crime over $5,000, obstruction, and six counts of failure to comply.

The incident occurred on May 1 around 7 p.m. when the local detachment received a report of an ambulance being stolen in front of the Bonnyville Healthcare Centre.

The ambulance was found heading westbound on Hwy. 28 with its emergency lights on.

Members from the St. Paul and Smoky Lake RCMP detachments assisted. A tire deflation device was deployed at two separate locations along Hwy. 28.

The unit continued and was driving erratically on Hwy. 28, going into traffic. A police vehicle made tactical contact to stop it from causing further risk to the public.

Day attempted to flee from police on foot but was caught and arrested without incident.

The Grande Prairie man was remanded into custody after a judicial hearing and will be appearing in St. Paul Provincial Court on May 11.
