BONNYVILLE - A fire restriction is in place as of May 1 for the MD of Bonnyville No. 87, Summer Village of Bonnyville Beach, Summer Village of Pelican Narrows and Village of Glendon. The restriction is effective as of 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Under the restriction, existing fire permits have been suspended and no new fire permits are being issued, according to information released by the BRFA.

"All existing fires must be extinguished."

The restriction does allow for safe wood campfires within fire rings in campgrounds and on privately owned land. Backyard fire pits, charcoal briquette barbecues on private land, and propane/natural gas powered appliances are also allowed.

"All outdoor wood fires or fires fuelled by charcoal briquettes are banned on public lands, including backcountry and random camping areas," reads the fire restriction information. "The use of fireworks and exploding targets are also prohibited."

BRFA reminds people to "never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished."

People are also asked to report any wildfire immediately by calling 310-FIRE.
