BONNYVILLE – While it didn’t happen at the stroke of midnight, the Town of Bonnyville did welcome its first baby of 2021 on New Year's Day.

Riley Leo Knudslien made his grand entrance into the world at the Bonnyville Healthcare Centre at 4:09 p.m. weighing five pounds and seven ounces and 18 inches in length on Friday, Jan. 1.

Mom Amanda Knudslien had a quick labour.

“It happened so fast,” she recalled, adding that she started labour at 1 p.m. and welcomed her son into the world only a few short hours later.

“I was due on the 12th of Jan., but they induced me so I had him on New Year’s Day.”

Riley is Amanda and her husband, Jerrett Knudslien’s, first child, and both mom and baby are "doing really good."

Amanda described her stay at the Bonnyville Healthcare Centre as ‘awesome,’ even with all of the COVID-19 restrictions in place.

“I was just a little sad my family couldn’t come and visit me,” she noted.

The Bonnyville Health Centre Ladies Auxiliary presented Riley and Amanda with a gift basket in celebration of the first baby being born locally in the new year.
