Brothers wanted in Cold Lake area murder found in Edmonton

Two local men wanted on Canada-wide warrants in relation to the murder of a Cold Lake First Nation man were arrested in the Edmonton area this past Tuesday.

Two local men wanted on Canada-wide warrants in relation to the murder of a Cold Lake First Nation man were arrested in the Edmonton area this past Tuesday.

Autopsy results indicating the victim, 29-year-old Paul Simon Scanie, died from a single gunshot were released Wednesday.

Wayne Ernest Matchatis, 54, has been charged with second degree murder. His brother Kenneth Leonard Matchatis, 59, has been charged with being an accessory. They have been remanded in custody and will appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court Aug. 24.

Cold Lake RCMP were investigating a report of suspicious death July 31 and found the victim at a Cold Lake First Nation residence.
