It was another Canada Day in Bonnyville to remember. With great weather and many events throughout the day, it appeared the entire town was out and about enjoying the festivities.

“This is one of the biggest celebrations in town all year,” said Mayor Ernie Isley, following opening ceremonies at the Bonnyville Museum.

“It's an important day for all of us and a chance to get out and enjoy it with each other,” he added.

The day kicked off with a pancake breakfast, opening ceremonies and an early afternoon barbecue at the museum.

Hundreds then gathered on main street for the Canada Day parade.

“This is the best parade of the year,” said one excited Canadian, as children raced out onto the street, gathering handfuls of treats tossed from passing floats.

Both kid and adult Lakeland Idol singing competitions were held later in the afternoon, followed by a performance by the Trincan Steel Orchestra.

The band King Muskafa played until dusk as the crowd along the shores of Jessie Lake grew rapidly.

Then, in traditional Canada Day fashion, the day's events were closed out by a spectacular fireworks display over the lake.

MLA for Bonnyville – Cold Lake Genia Leskiw remarked during the opening ceremonies, “It's easy to see why so many choose to make Canada their home. We should all be proud.”
