Canadian pride floods Bonnyville

Canada Day spirit was in full swing in Bonnyville, as residents gathered for a day of festivities, including a parade and a party in the park.

BONNYVILLE – The Town of Bonnyville hosted a full day of Canada Day celebrations with a pancake breakfast, opening ceremony, parade, and massive party at Little Leap Park that drew large crowds.

The vibrant parade was full of tractors, horses, candy, water guns, and decorated floats as participating dignitaries, organizations and businesses made for a large, loud, and joyful parade. 50th Ave. in Bonnyville was packed with parade spectators and excited children.

The Canada Day Party in the Park held at Little Leap Park saw a massive turnout of people who came to enjoy the lineup of entertainment, activities, and vendors.

The Bonnyville Museum hosted the opening ceremonies. Museum board president Morris Mickalyk thanked the dignitaries for their support and welcomed the public to roam the museum and enjoy their displays.

Town of Bonnyville Mayor Elisa Brosseau spoke about what a great time was had at the pancake breakfast, and how she hopes residents continue to partake in the many events the Town of Bonnyville puts on for Canada Day every year.

“I really do enjoy coming down to the museum so much. They do such a good job of keeping this up, and it reminds me of how long of a journey Canada has had, and where we’ve come from. It’s a great day to reflect – but then at the end of the day, we get to celebrate with fireworks,” said Brosseau.

Bonnyville – Cold Lake – St. Paul MLA Scott Cyr thanked the Town of Bonnyville for hosting such wonderful Canada Day events and acknowledged the “first nations partners and neighbours from around the area.”

“It’s a privilege to be out here with everybody – I tell you, Bonnyville puts on one of the best parades. I just want to enjoy this lovely day,” said Cyr.

MD of Bonnyville Deputy Reeve Darcy Skarsen wished everyone a Happy Canada Day on behalf of the MD of Bonnyville and commented on how great the Town of Bonnyville’s Canada Day events always are.

“I look forward to the parade - I do brag about it. It’s a pretty awesome sight to see if you’re ever on a float. So many people come out to see the parade here. It’s very exciting to see all these people celebrating Canada.”
