A Cold Lake bed and breakfast is one of the best in Canada.
The Waterfront Harbour Bed and Breakfast, located on the shores of Cold Lake, was named one of Trivago’s top 10 bed and breakfasts in Canada.
“We were just really surprised,” explained owner and keeper Isabel Myshaniuk. “We did nothing for this, and we just heard about this. We were pretty surprised, and of course, very honoured, pleased, and proud about it.”
Along with her niece, Shannon Schumacher, Myshaniuk has been offering guests a home away from home that has people coming back every year.
Myshaniuk purchased the building five-years-ago, spending that time growing her business and clientele from scratch.
“When I bought this bed and breakfast, it hadn’t been running as one for seven years,” she recalled.
Trivago pulled information from reviews left online by guests of the top 10 bed and breakfasts.
“In the past, we’ve had a business account on TripAdvisor and had reviews. On there, we’re considered the number one bed and breakfast in the area. How that is figured out is strictly the reviews you get from your guests, and we’ve been a five-star all along with that,” expressed Myshaniuk.
The positive customer reviews for the Waterfront Harbour Bed and Breakfast commend the hotel’s cleanliness, their homemade breakfasts, and the overall atmosphere.
Myshaniuk said, “We’re quite small compared to some other hotels and inns. We can cater a bit more to our guests because we’re not huge. I think accommodations to guests is also a compliment we get, we try to give them what they need. If it’s information, or we need to adjust our regular breakfast times for them, we’ll do that within reason to help our guests.”
Guests have praised their lakefront location as an asset. Myshaniuk describes the view as breathtaking.
“Waking up to the sunrise here is just an awesome experience. Our bed and breakfast is faced the right way so that if you look out the front, that’s where the sun comes up,” she detailed.
After retiring as a nurse, Myshaniuk just wasn’t ready to “sit on the couch,” so she decided to start her own business in.
“I wanted forever and ever to do a bed and breakfast, and it just sort of happened,” she described.
Meeting guests and introducing people to the area have been a highlight for her.
“I’ve spent a lot of time in Cold Lake, from the time I was a teenager, because I have family here. I’ve always loved Cold Lake, and I always said I was going to retire here,” Myshaniuk said. “Hopefully, when our guests leave here, they leave with a really good feeling about Cold Lake and they want to come back. We see ourselves as ambassadors for Cold Lake, because I think Cold Lake needs more people.”
After a successful summer season, Myshaniuk hopes to increase her clientele over the winter months.
“We’re definitely more busy in the summer than the winter, and I’d like to change that. It’s beautiful here in the winter, and there’s really good things here.”
