The Bonnyville and District Centennial Centre is keeping the tradition alive by carrying on the Bonnyville Community Learning Council’s (BCLC) legacy.

After the BCLC dissolved earlier this year, the future of the Bonnyville Community Awareness and Registration Event was up in the air.

Now, the C2 has stepped in and said they will host the annual affair on Thursday, Sept. 5.

“We’re continuing the great work done by the BCLC who had organized the event for the past number of years. It just makes sense for us to plan the event now since we’re the host facility,” expressed Sue Wojcik, marketing manager for the Centennial Centre.

Wojcik said they took on the event because of its significance to everyone involved.

“It’s important for the entire community… They can come, browse at their leisure, learn about, and consider their options. It’s really to help them keep active, learning, engaging, and involved all-year long,” she noted.

The C2 is expecting 60 organizations to be on-hand accepting registrations and offering information about what they bring to the table.

“It’s really set-up as a trade show, where the community’s clubs, groups, teams, and organizations can set up a display space or booth to showcase what they offer,” Wojcik detailed.

The event will be held at the newly dubbed AECOM Field House from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“It’s a great way for organizations to find new volunteers and new members. It’s a fantastic one-stop shop for families, youth, adults, pretty much everyone, to find out what’s in our community,” expressed Wojcik.

Registration is still open for organizations and clubs interested. Wojcik warned it’s first-come, first-serve so those interested should sign-up before it’s too late.

“We’re also going to be setting up a separate exhibition area for groups in order to have some live action demos of what they offer,” she added, noting this is also based on who signs up first.

“It’s happened in the past, but it hasn’t really been structured or organized, so we’re going to try to organize it into time slots this year.”
