BONNYVILLE - An open house is scheduled to take place this afternoon at the ambulance hall in Bonnyville, in honour of EMS Week, also known as Paramedic Services Week.

A free barbecue, mascot Terry the Traumasaurus, a blood pressure clinic, and a teddy bear clinic are sure to make for an afternoon of fun on May 24.

According to Ken Hesson, Interim Division Chief Medical Operations with Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority EMS, the day offers the public a chance to meet frontline workers in a fun, casual format, rather than on the scene of an emergency.

“A lot of the times when we meet the public... they’re having a bad day," says Hesson, who adds it's also important for those working in the line of work to be visible in the public.

Hesson encourages young children to bring their teddy bears who may need to be tended to with some first aide, and others who stop by can take advantage of the blood pressure clinic.

The open house will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., and will also include giveaways and ambulance tours.
