BONNYVILLE – Lakeland Industry and Community Association (LICA) hosted its Family Fun Day at their Community Garden in Bonnyville, offering folks a chance to explore the garden, connect with the organization’s staff, and enjoy the event’s activities.
The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority attended the June 14 event with their barbecue, and parents could enjoy lunch while kids burned off their energy at the bouncy castle.
Stephanie Sampson, Education and Outreach Coordinator for LICA, said the Family Fun Day is a great way for the community to engage with LICA, learn about what it is that they do, and get to see what the community garden is about.
“It’s always a nice way to do something for the community. The kids love it, and it lets people know what we’re about,” said Sampson.
LICA set up an interactive booth where attendees could learn about local wildlife and ask the questions.
The Community Garden plots were also sprouting with new plants and veggies. Much of the freshly grown produce will be donated to the food bank later in the season, and Sampson commented on what a great gateway the Community Garden is for new gardeners to learn.
“We host a lot of workshops as well that people can attend . . . People can check out our website or give us a call. Our office is in Bonnyville, and you are welcome to stop in and say hello,” said Sampson.
