BONNYVILLE - The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA) has issued a fire restriction for the MD of Bonnyville, Summer Villages of Bonnyville and Pelican Narrows, and the Village of Glendon.

According to a media release issued by the fire authority earlier today, all fire permits are suspended and all wood campfires on public lands and burn barrels are prohibited, effective immediately.

Portable propane fire pits, gas or liquid fuel cooking devices, and catalytic or infrared-style heaters that are CSA approved are permitted, as well as wood burning campfires in "fire rings or other purpose-built, permanent devices designed for containing campfires," wood burning campfires in municipal campgrounds and in fire pits on private land, and charcoal briquette fuelled fires on private land or within designated municipal campgrounds.

"Essential burning can still occur by permit only with the permission from a fire guardian," the press release explains. "Fireworks are permitted by permit-only in accordance with municipal bylaws outside the Forest Protection Area only."

The fire restriction does not apply to towns or cities.
