BONNYVILLE - The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA) has downgraded the fire restriction to a fire advisory for the MD of Bonnyville, Village of Bonnyville Beach, Summer Village of Pelican Narrows, and the Village of Glendon.

Effective today, existing fire permits are reinstated, however, no new permits will be issued by the fire authority for non-essential burning.

Burn barrels with screens, fire pits, fireworks, and safe campfires are allowed, a media release stated.

The region entered a fire restriction in late June due to a heat wave sweeping the province.

At the time, BRFA Fire Chief Jay Melvin said, "There are two big concerns if we were to get a fire; one, we get a fire and it’s extremely hot out, and two, do we have the ability to put that fire out with how hot it is."

“We have people working in 37-degree temperatures, that would be very unsafe and would increase the risks,” he added.
