The man facing charges after allegedly stealing a truck and horse trailer to which two horses were tied appeared in court on Aug. 7.

Joshua Wayne Mills, 27, appeared in Bonnyville court by closed circuit television (CCTC), facing eight charges: two counts of theft over $5,000, one count of endangering and/or injuring livestock, one count of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, two counts of impaired operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to comply with previous release conditions.

The incident occurred at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 22, during Bonnyville's chuckwagon weekend. Mills is facing charges of allegedly stealing a truck and trailer with two horses tied to it. According to an RCMP report, the owner was inside the trailer at the time of the theft. He alerted the RCMP by phone from inside the trailer and was able to provide them with an idea of the location of the vehicle.

The two horses tied to the trailer were dragged for an unknown length of time, though they had broken free before RCMP were able to stop the truck. The owner was able to jump from the trailer when the vehicle slowed on Highway 41 to turn onto Highway 55, according to the RCMP.

Lawyers said disclosure has been provided but requested the issue be put over for two weeks to review information further. Judge Williams granted this request and Mills will appear in Bonnyville court by CCTV on Aug. 21.

A request for bail was denied.
