BONNYVILLE - The Alberta Court of Appeal has ordered a new trial in the second-degree murder conviction of Frank James Frenchman.

Frank James Frenchman was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for at least 13 years on July 25, 2019 for the October 2016 murder of 83-year-old Bonnyville senior Alfred Wagner.

Following trial in Edmonton last year, Frank James Frenchman expressed his intentions to appeal the second-degree murder conviction and was granted a new trial on Jan. 24, 2020 in private Edmonton chambers.

Frank James Frenchman was charged alongside his sister, Arizona Chastity Frenchman, following the murder of Wagner, who was found dead in his home in mid-October 2016.

Arizona Chastity Frenchman was sentenced to five years in prison for manslaughter.

Updates will be made as more information about the appeal becomes available.
