BONNYVILLE – The sun was shining, and car enthusiasts were showing off their hot rods at the Bonnyville Regional Airport over the weekend at the annual Bonnyville Gear Grabbers Races.
This year’s Gear Grabbers Show and Shine event held on Friday evening broke records with more than 210 vehicles on full display for the public to admire.
Event organizer Shon Gamache told Lakeland This Week that another Gear Grabbers record was believed to be broken on Saturday with a massive spectator turnout. More than 2,500 attendees took in the three-day event.
Another 110 professional and amateur racers also took to the tracks on Saturday and Sunday to compete in three different categories: Pro, Sportsman and Grudge.
Saturday’s winners include Cold Lake driver Nick Snelgrove in the Sportsman category, Klarke Crosby from Fort McMurray won in the Pro category while Keith Urlacher, also from Cold Lake, won in the Grudge category.
On Sunday night, it would be Cold Lake resident Tamara Urlacher who would take the top spot in the Sportsman category, Spruce Grove driver Wally Kuzyk would take first place in Pro, and Lloydminster racer Curtis Kitzul would come in first place in the Grudge category.
