Glendon farmers market features farm demo

GLENDON – Those checking out the July 13 Farmer’s Market at the Glendon RCMP Hall also had the chance to hang out with some goats and horses at the farm demo held outside.

Members of the Bonnyville 4-H club, Charlotte and Eugene Lord, brought their lovable milking goats and kids, and Charlotte was happy to share her knowledge about holistic goat keeping.

Iron River Wrangler member Maegan Gooler offered pony rides on her sweet little paint pony, J.B Mauney.

Liz Barker, vice president of the Glendon Ag Society, organized the event, and said they aspire to bring in more interactive elements to their events. They figured letting the 4-H kids bring their animals would not only be a wonderful opportunity for attendees to interact with the animals but would also be a way to promote the different 4-H clubs in the region.

“I’ve only been on the board since February, and I’m also on the social committee. I’ve planned some social events coming up like the Disney trivia night on July 26 . . . We also have the harvest dance in September and were hosting Jamie Pruden to come out and do his game show . . . We definitely try to do some unique event,” said Barker.

“I have a few ideas in the works for next year. I’ve got a short story contest on right now, and the winning story is actually going to be the premise for our zombie run, which will be on zombie awareness day. It was funny. We had board members googling it and it really is a thing,” said Barker.

She said the social events being hosted by the Glendon Ag Society focus on creating opportunities for the community to come together and have fun.

“I’ve always wanted to be an event planner, so this is the next best thing,” said Barker.
