GLENDON - The Village of Glendon held its annual pyrogy festival at Pyrogy Park on Sept 7, celebrating the community's strong Ukrainian heritage.
The community gathered to enjoy a plate of pyrogies as well as many festivities including Glendon’s Shevchenko Ukrainian dancers, the old time music of Troy Gates, kids' activities, and of course the pyrogy eating competition.
Glendon School shop teacher Josh Backer won the Pyrogy eating contest for the third time in a row, eating 10 pyrogies in less than 2.5 minutes.
This year's pyrogy eating youth winner was Natasha Tkachuk.
Belvia Wrobel reports that “many kids enjoyed the old fashioned races organized by the Glendon District Historical Society."
“[We had] sack races, wheel barrow races, running races, three-legged races, and relays, topped off with a huge candy scramble. Fun was had by all,” said Wrobel.
Later that day, Glendon Cruise Night held on main street, which included a long lineup of vintage and new vehicles on display.
In the evening, a drive-in movie was also held, making for a full day of festivities in Glendon.
