The Alberta Beef Producers (ABP) will be hosting fall meetings across the province at the end of the month with the Zone 8 meeting taking place in the MD of Bonnyville.

Goodridge Hall will be hosting an ABP meeting on Oct. 28 at 7pm. Unlike some the majority of the other zone meetings there will be no dinner beforehand.

This year's meeting will include guest speaker Doug Sawyer, who ranches near Pine Lake and is finishing up the final year of his term as ABP chair.

“We hold producers meetings every year as a way to communicate directly with producers and tell them what we have bee doing,” said Katelyn Laverdure, ABP communications manager. “We get some feedback from them as to whether they think we are going in the right direction or if there are some new directions that they think we should be going in.”

The meetings usually start with a showing of the ABP year-in-review video, which covers everything that has been worked on over the past year. The audience is also provided with the financial report as well as a report from the Canadian Cattleman's Association.

“We bring resolutions to each meeting so everybody in attendance can vote for or against and the ones that get passed at the fall meetings will be brought to our annual general meeting for our delegate body to debate,” explained Laverdure.

Those in attendance are given the chance to control subjects of discussion at the meeting, with an opportunity for two-way open dialogue towards the end of the meeting.

“It is probably the best way for producers to get their voice heard and to hear exactly what we are doing. It is our strongest communication channel all year,” Laverdure said.
