Kehewin holds council elections

Residents of Kehewin Cree Nation elected a new council Monday.

Four incumbents, including current chief Ernest Gadwa, have been re-elected for another three-year term, while three new members will join council, according to the Kehewin Cree Nation band office.

A total of 33 candidates were nominated for council Mar. 14.

Residents will return to the polls Mar. 28 to elect a chief. The chief is chosen from the newly elected council; however, any eligible councillor must have served at least one term on council prior to running for chief.

Eric Gadwa - incumbent

Rodney John - incumbent

Ernest Gadwa - current chief

Henry Moosepayo - newly elected

Gordon John - newly elected

William John - incumbent
