LAKELAND – A hot dry summer was a welcome forecast for Lakeland beach volleyball players who played and practiced outside throughout the past couple of months.
Teams spent the summer months getting ready for Alberta’s Beach Volleyball Provincials by competing in a variety of premier tournaments all over the province, including the Alberta Summer Games.
During the first weekend of August, three Lakeland teams comprised of two players each made their way to Calgary courts to compete at provincials.
Kayley Gerlinsky and Izzy Watters finished seventh in Division I after losing to the provincial champions in the quarter finals. In a close match, Gerlinsky and Watters would fall behind by five points with the first set ending at 21-16. Narrowing the gap in the second set, the girls would lose 22-20.
Also competing at provincials was Emily Kozun and Katie Brown, as well as Faith Noble and Georgia Parker.
Kozun and Brown finished in 12th place in Division 1, whereas Noble and Parker wrapped up this year's beach volleyball provincial tournament in sixth place among Division 2.
Leading up to provincials, two Lakeland teams participated in the Alberta Summer Games held in Okotoks and Black Diamond from July 20-23.
Brown and Kozun finished in seventh place in the women's division at the 2023 Summer Games, while Gautam Jay and Harvee Valente came in eighth place in the men's division.
