One lucky duck crossed the finish line first at the 21st annual Ardmore Duck Race this past Sunday, winning Cheryl Hobbs a brand new shed. The duck, number 1,508, was one of 2,000 purchased for $5 each with proceeds going to support the Ardmore School through the Ardmore Parent Advisory Association.

All 2,000 ducks sell out each year, Leona Vachon, chair of the duck race committee and the Parent Advisory Association, explained. At $5 per duck, that means $10,000 are raised from the ducks alone. Raffle ticket sales add to that amount as well, with raffle prizes including $1,000 gas vouchers, iPads, and more.

“I think it went really smoothly,” Vachon said. “I didn't win anything, so not as good for me, but I'm sure the winners are happy.”

She added the turnout was good as well, despite the cloudy weather.

Next, she said, she'll be taking all 2,000 ducks home to wash them up before putting them back into storage for next year.
