A Bonnyville man is facing charges in the May 11 death of his brother.

RCMP have charged Barry John Lyzun, 54, with manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death after his brother was found dead in a 42nd Avenue home in town.

RCMP say Terry Stephen Lyzun, 48, died at the residence he shared with his brother. RCMP are alleging that Barry provided his brother Terry with prescribed medications that caused his death.

According to Mounties, both brothers had consumed a large quantity of alcohol around the time of Terry's death

RCMP said in a media release that Barry went to the Bonnyville Health Centre to inform staff there that his brother had died at the residence after taking his prescribed medications.

Barry is scheduled to appear in Bonnyville provincial court today.

The RCMP major crimes unit based in St. Paul was called in to assist Bonnyville officers with the investigation in the case.

An autopsy was conducted and the results were not able to identify the exact cause of Terry's death.

Toxicology tests are continuing and it may take several months before Mounties get the results of the tests, said Cpl. Steve Smith, acting Bonnyville RCMP detachment commander.

“It can take some time before we get the exact results back. We pretty much know what we're going to find, but we have to wait for the results to come back to confirm,” Smith said.

Smith said RCMP were not familiar with the Lyzun brothers prior to Terry's death.
