The man sentenced to 10 years in jail for murdering a 76-year-old Bonnyville woman in 2010 was arrested by Edmonton police hours after escaping the Stan Daniels Healing Centre.

On March 20, 2019, staff members of the centre, which is managed by Native Counselling Services of Alberta, discovered 27-year-old Jesse Leppanen wasn’t accounted for.

The Correctional Service of Canada contacted Edmonton police and a province-wide warrant for his arrest was issued. Hours later, at 10 p.m., police located Leppanen and made the arrest.

Leppanen pled guilty in June 2012 to manslaughter and failing to comply with the conditions of an undertaking in connection to the death of Mary Ella Corbiere, a senior who was found dead in her Kehewin home on Nov. 15, 2010.
