MD of Bonnyville residents will once again have the opportunity for some one-on-one time with their local councillors as the MD will be hosting a series of Town Hall meetings all across the municipality over the coming months.
Reeve Ed Rondeau says he finds the meetings “extremely beneficial” for both the councillors and residents. “We are firm believers in Town Hall meetings,” said Rondeau. “It puts you one-on-one with the public, the people who want to take the time to attend. It gives those people the opportunity to voice their concerns, if they have any.”
Roads and Infrastructure, MD Progress, Regional Partnerships versus Regional Government, Waste Management/ Recycling and Pest and Weed Control programs are among the topics expected to be touched on at the meetings. However, Rondeau says the residents will be the ones setting the agendas.
“It will be wide open to the public. We don't bring our agendas to these meetings. We try to get their agendas,” said Rondeau. “If we bring our agendas we are pushing them into a direction we want and that is not what we are after.”
The MD has been holding these meetings every year during Rondeau's seven-year stint as reeve of the municipality and he says they are important no matter how small the attendance is.
“It doesn't mater if there are two people, 22 people or 200 people. They get a chance to voice their concerns,” said Rondeau. “They are usually relatively popular and get anywhere from 20 to 40 people and those are the 20 people who are really active and want to be a part of the municipality.”
All meeting will run from 7 to 9 p.m.
