Muddy mayhem returns to Glendon for 32nd annual Mud Bog and Demolition Derby

The Demolition Derby and Mud Bog festivities will once again take over the Glendon area with a full day of activities and unbelievable spectacles on Aug. 12. All that is left to decide now is – who are you going to invite?

GLENDON – The Demolition Derby and Mud Bog festivities will once again take over the Glendon area with a full day of activities and unbelievable spectacles on Aug. 12.

Returning for its 32nd year, the Glendon Demolition Derby and Mud Bog is anticipating more trucks, cars and crashes on the track this year.

An estimated 26 trucks and 15 cars are slated to take part in just the demolition derby portion of the event, said Chelsey Cote, the committee chair for the event. Last year, 17 truck and six cars took part in the last-man-standing event.

Anyone hemming and hawing about registering for the Mud Bog of Demolition Derby will have until the day of the event to sign-up.

But before residents' head to the derby grounds, they are encouraged to take part in several events taking place in the village. A pancake breakfast and farmers’ market will start off the day at the Glendon RCMP Hall followed by a community parade.

Cote notes that many of the local drivers participating in the Demolition Derby and Mud Bog will be showing off their rides in the Village of Glendon’s parade. Starting at 10 a.m., the parade will make its way from Glendon School down the village’s main drag, from west to east.

Following the parade, attendees can choose to head straight to the derby grounds, which open at 11 a.m. or head over to a firefighters’ fundraising barbecue. The barbecue is being put on by members from Station 3 Glendon.

From there, the real action will get underway two miles straight north of Glendon.

Admission for the event is $20 for adults, $10 youth between the ages of 11-17, while children from six-10 years old cost $5. Admission is free for children five years or under. A $60 family pass is also available for two adults and up to four kids under 17 or residing in the same household.

Attendees are reminded that animals are not permitted on the grounds and that lawn chairs and ear plugs are recommended for spectators.

Guests shouldn’t be too concerned with packing snacks because 10 food vendors and trucks will be serving up food and drinks throughout the day. An ATM will also be onsite for anyone needing cash to purchase event swag or 50/50 raffle tickets from the Glendon Shevchenko Ukrainian Dance Club.

In between heats, lawnmower drivers with a need for speed will fill the intermission thanks to event sponsor Dynamo Small Engines.

The event will continue to roll until all the day’s prizes are awarded and only one driver is named demolition derby champion.

All that is left to decide now is – who are you going to invite?
