BONNYVILLE - Town of Bonnyville council learned about a month ago that an application for funding for a new swimming pool in the community had not been approved.

At the Feb. 27 council meeting, council was notified that an application through the Government of Canada's Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) program was not successful.

The Town of Bonnyville and MD of Bonnyville have been planning for a new swimming pool since 2018, and those involved say they will continue to work toward making a new swimming pool a reality in the community.

“Although the federal government was not in favour of funding us at this time, we’re still exploring different avenues for funding to be put towards making a Bonnyville Aquatics Facility a reality," said Town of Bonnyville mayor Elisa Brosseau. "We know this is something our residents want and we will look at every avenue we have available to us to find funding to get a project moving ahead.”

Updates on the proposed Bonnyville Aquatics Centre will be made public as they become available, according to the Town of Bonnyville.
