Not so merry after all

BONNYVILLE - It wasn't such a Merry Christmas for Germain Ian Houle, who was arrested after RCMP were called to remove him from a residence.

On Dec. 25, Bonnyville RCMP were called by someone claiming Houle had assaulted them and wanted him removed from their property.

Officers attended and arrested the 33-year-old accused.

Once in the back of the police cruiser, Houle began kicking the door from the inside. Despite being told to stop, he continued, causing damage to the point where the door would no longer open.

During his court appearance on Tuesday, Feb. 18, Houle pleaded guilty to mischief causing damage under $5,000, and was sentenced to pay a $700 fine.

Crown prosecutor Caeleigh Shier noted that although Houle's criminal record doesn't have any prior mischief-related convictions, there are some that are violent in nature.

She described Houle's behaviour at the time of the offence as aggressive.

Houle, who is from Kehewin, apologized for "a night of too much drinking," that resulted in a mistake that he will have to pay the price for.

Honourable Judge Kathleen Williams agreed with the $700 fine.
