Pedestrian struck, driver ticketed

A pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street was taken to hospital and later released. Bonnyville RCMP were contacted by local EMS on Thursday, July 11 regarding a collision where a vehicle had hit a pedestrian on 51 Ave.

A pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street was taken to hospital and later released.

Bonnyville RCMP were contacted by local EMS on Thursday, July 11 regarding a collision where a vehicle had hit a pedestrian on 51 Ave.

"RCMP arrived and located the victim and the suspect vehicle, statements were taken from everyone involved, and the driver of the vehicle was charged (under the traffic safety act) with failing to yield to a pedestrian crosswalk,” detailed S/Sgt. Sarah Parke.

Parke noted, the female hit was taken to hospital where she was treated and released.

Kehewin Band Office broken into

An employee of the Kehewin Cree Nation Band Office came into work on July 5 to discover the office had been broken into overnight.

“The culprits damaged multiple doors inside, various items were stolen, including an undisclosed amount of cash,” Parke described. “We had a member who is forensically trained attend the scene and conduct an analysis and it’s still under investigation."

She added, “We do suspect there will be some chatter regarding this incident and that someone out there knows what happened or who was involved. We encourage anyone with information to call us."

Former classmate scams through Facebook

Police were notified after someone had been scammed by a former classmate through Facebook.

According to Parke, the 36-year-old suspect had been given money through cheques and e-transfers before the victim's bank informed him of the scam.

The suspect is facing charges of false pretences under $5,000.

Broken windows and doors

RCMP received a report of a break and enter at a residence on 41 St.

“A bedroom window was smashed, the patio door was pried open, and a couple of TVs were stolen. (The scene) was analyzed forensically and it’s still under investigation,” said Parke.

Bonnyville RCMP are asking anyone that has information about the incident, which took place on July 7, to call the detachment at 780-343-7200.

Twice the legal limit

A driver who provided samples twice the legal limit is facing charges of driving while impaired, driving over .08, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Police were dispatched by 911 at 11:45 p.m. on July 7 regarding a vehicle in the ditch on Hwy. 28 near the North Shore Heights turnoff.

“RCMP attended and located the driver behind the wheel, who appeared to be impaired. He failed an approved screening device at the roadside, he was brought back to the detachment where he provided samples of more than twice the legal limit,” Parke described.

The 29-year-old Bonnyville driver, who didn't sustain any injuries as a result of the incident, is facing charges as a result of the readings.

Aggressive man demanding free coffee

A 37-year-old Bonnyville man was in need of a caffeine fix on July 9.

RCMP were called to a local gas station after a man had been inside of the business demanding free coffee and being aggressive with staff.

Officers located the male at his residence and arrested him.

"He resisted and obstructed the members and was found to be breaching a condition that he had just been released on at midnight the night before, so seven hours earlier,” explained Parke.

The accused appeared in court on July 9 and was convicted of failing to comply with an undertaking, resisting arrest, and uttering threats.

According to Parke, he was given a 45-day concurrent jail sentence.

Practising his swing

A 41-year-old Bonnyville male was taking his golf game off of the course on July 11, and it resulted in charges.

At 10 p.m., police were dispatched to a report of a male walking with a golf club hitting light posts down main street.

He was located and arrested by responding officers.

Parke said, “This person was on conditions not to possess any weapons. He’s being charged with mischief and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose."
