Singer/songwriter and musician Kyle Bercier impresses the crowd with a couple covers and a song of his own at the Bonnyville Opry on Saturday. This was the opening night of the Opry season, with shows running on the second Saturday of each month over the next six months.

One of Bonnyville's oldest showcases for local musical talent opened up another season on Saturday at the Lyle Victor Albert Centre.

The Bonnyville Opry, which will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in January, started off the season, as it always does, showcasing a handful of newcomers and past performers to a fun, receptive audience.

Rose-Marie Cameron, president of the Opry said, “This show was a little smaller to start the season, but it's still awesome. We have some great performers and a good crowd. It's always an exciting time of year.”

There are seven shows this season, including Saturday's. Each show will take place on the second Saturday of the month.

Cameron said there are a few highlight shows this season that fans of the Opry might consider getting tickets for in advance.

“The Christmas show in December, the 25th anniversary show in January and the final show of the season, those are always our biggest,” she explained.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $7 at Tellier's Value Drug Mart or the Bonnyville Liquor Store or at the door for $10.

Though the Opry continues to see familiar local talent take to the stage and entertain the audience, Cameron commended the new faces performing at the Opry.

“It's the new performers, the younger faces that are the future of the Opry,” said Cameron. “It's exciting to see some local talent come try it once and then return to perform again.”

She said the Opry is always looking for performers and welcomes musical talent of all ages and styles.

Cameron also said the Opry is in need of volunteers to help with set up and tear down and other activities associated with the Opry.
