Police looking for info on arson

Police are looking for information about an arson over the weekend.

On Saturday, Jan. 20 at about 9 p.m., RCMP were called to a Bonnyville residence on 50 Ave. and 52 St. after reports of a possible arson.

When officers arrived, fire crews were already on scene.

“The fire department was able to extinguish it before too much damage was done. The residents sleeping inside were were woken up by RCMP and escorted out of the house,” said Bonnyville RCMP Sgt. Sarah Parke.

Police are searching for possible suspects.

On Wednesday, Jan. 17, at about 1:30 a.m., Bonnyville RCMP attempted to stop a vehicle on the Kehewin Cree Nation after it ran a stop sign.

“The vehicle failed to stop, but a short while later got stuck in the ditch,” explained Parke.

Two males fled from the vehicle and ran to a residence.

RCMP obtained a warrant and entered the house where they located both of the men.

A 27-year-old Edmonton male, who is believed to have ties to Kehewin, was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, operating a motor vehicle while being pursued by police, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without a licence, and operating a motor vehicle without registration.

A 50-year-old Kehewin male was also arrested. He was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000.

Both men will remain at the Edmonton Remand Centre until their first court appearance on Jan. 22.

A local dog owner has been fined after their rottweiler-cross bit a 14-year-old child on Jan. 13.

The report came in at about 10:30 a.m. on 42 St. in Bonnyville.

The 48-year-old man who owned the dog was ticketed under a town bylaw for having an animal at large, failing to wear proper pet licence, and nuisance.

The youth was taken to hospital as a precaution and was released later that day.

Two vehicles were reported stolen on Thursday, Jan. 18.

A white Ford F350 with a black roll cage over the back of the truck was reported stolen from the Best Western in Bonnyville. It has a company sticker “Site Energy” on the side, with the licence plate BRH 5698.

At 9 a.m. on the same day, a 2004 silver Intrepid was stolen from the Bonnyville hospital parking lot. The licence plate reads BTR 3124.

RCMP are searching for information regarding an number of mailbox thefts in the Town and MD of Bonnyville.
