Members of the public stepped in to stop an impaired driver from leaving 7-Eleven.
According to S/Sgt. Sarah Parke, on Dec. 1, RCMP were contacted by multiple residents about an impaired driver.
The female had pulled into the local 7-Eleven and headed inside with her toddler in-tow when the public took it upon themselves to prevent her from leaving the scene.
Parke said several vehicles boxed the mini van in.
“(The accused) then proceeded to smash her vehicle into others in order to evade apprehension, but RCMP arrived on scene and arrested her.”
The driver refused to provide a sample of her breathe to police, and was charged with several counts including operating a motor vehicle while impaired, failing to comply with an alcohol demand, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop following an accident, assault, and mischief under $5,000.
The female, who only held a learners driver’s license, was also charged under the Traffic Safety Act for transporting liquor in an open container, transporting cannabis in an open package within access of the driver, a child sear infraction, and failing to have a fully licensed driver while operating a motor vehicle.
She is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 21.
Parke noted that while the RCMP are thankful for the public’s assistance with apprehending the driver, residents should avoid getting involved for their own safety.
Man assaults woman, flees police
Bonnyville RCMP have charged Dustin Hrynyk following a police pursuit on Nov. 24.
It was roughly 11 p.m. when officers were dispatched to the area of 45 Ave. where a female had been assaulted by the 28-year-old accused.
Parke said while en route, officers located the male parked in front of a local liquor store.
Hrynyk fled from responding police and a short pursuit took place.
“The suspect was later located the following day... and arrested,” noted Parke.
The Bonnyville male has been charged with two counts of flight from police, two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and two counts of failing to comply with probation.
Police investigating broken window at Kehewin High School
Officers were dispatched to the Kehewin High School around 9 p.m. on Nov. 27 after receiving a call from the school’s alarm company.
Parke said a window was smashed open and police are looking for any information from the public about the incident.
GPS helps officers find their guy
Cold Lake RCMP were investigating a vehicle theft on Nov. 28 when the vehicle’s GPS tracking system led them right to their suspect.
The truck had been taken into the Bonnyville area, so local officers attended and found the truck.
A 23-year-old Cold Lake First Nations man was arrested and charged as a result of their investigation.
The male will appear in court in relation to possession of methamphetamine charge.
Parke said the male had used a business credit card that had been inside of the truck to purchase several hundreds of dollars worth of items., so he may be facing fraud or credit card-related charges as well, Parke noted.
Urinating in public results in fine
A man couldn’t hold it in any longer and is paying the price as a result.
On Nov. 29, police were called at around 3 p.m., about a male partially naked and urinating in the street on 50 Ave.
Officers found the intoxicated 19-year-old Kehewin male from Kehewin and charged him under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act for urinating in public.
Charged after causing mischief
At roughly 11 p.m. on Nov. 29, RCMP were called to a Kehewin residence to respond to a disturbance where 24-year-old female was intoxicated, high on drugs, and needed to be removed from the home, detailed Parke.
As a result of her actions, the female was charged with possession of crystal meth and failing to comply with a probation order.
Wanted on warrants
A female passenger wanted on warrants was arrested by police Dec. 1.
It was around 2:45 a.m. when officers conducted a traffic stop on 50 Ave.
The driver didn’t have a valid driver’s license, and after further investigation, police determined the 34-year-old Cold Lake passenger was wanted on warrants.
Following her arrest, officers searched her belongings and found crystal meth in her possession.
She was charged with possessing the drug as a result.
