Over $75,000 worth of stolen property was recovered after RCMP busted a break-and-enter ring that had been responsible for several complaints in the MD of Bonnyville.

The Bonnyville RCMP executed a search warrant on Nov. 16 with the assistance of the Cold Lake RCMP in the Town of Bonnyville. As a result, over $75,000 worth of stolen property, including tools, appliances, clothing, sporting goods and televisions, was recovered and charges were laid.

Julia Cardinal, 45, has been charged with possession of property obtained by a crime greater than $5,000, possession of property obtained by a crime less than $5,000, possession of break-and-enter tools, possession of a weapon, two counts of careless transportation of a firearm, two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Four other people have been charged with two counts each of possession of property obtained by a crime. Their names are being withheld.

Cardinal and the others facing charges will appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on Nov. 20.

In the press release, Bonnyville Staff Sgt. Luis Gandolfi said the incident was “another example of integrated policing and co-operation between two neighbouring detachments” and, “I would like to congratulate the officers involved from both Bonnyville and Cold Lake for a job well done.”
