With the help of residents, Bonnyville RCMP arrested and charged a suspect in relation to a 7-Eleven robbery.

Just before midnight on Sept. 18, police were called to the Bonnyville 7-Eleven on main street following a robbery.

"A male with a red backpack, dark clothes, and blonde hair had just robbed the store and fled on foot. He had fled with cash and cigarettes," described Sgt. Kim Hillier.

RCMP responded, but the male wasn't located.

"With the help of the public, members were able to track the male's route when he fled the 7-Eleven to a nearby residence," Hillier detailed. "Police entered the residence and located the male matching the description from the robbery, along with the backpack and cigarettes."

Cody Cardinal-Hill, a 26-year-old Bonnyville male, has been charged with two counts of robbery, obstruction, and two counts of failing to comply with conditions.

According to Hillier, the male was released on a $1,500 no-cash bail by a Justice of the Peace.

"The RCMP would like to thank the public for their help in assisting to locate the suspect quickly and without incident."

Cardinal-Hill is set to appear in Bonnyville court Oct. 1.

Two charged in assault

It was 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 when RCMP were called to a Kehewin residence where it was reported an assault had taken place and weapons were possibly involved.

Following an investigation, police arrested and charged a 41-year-old male and 35-year-old female.

The male has been charged with resisting or obstructing a police officer, and assault of a police officer, while the female was charged with assault, assault with a weapon, and uttering threats.

Both were released on conditions.

Break and enter in Glendon

A Village of Glendon business owner discovered their industrial shop had been broken into.

On Sept. 16, police were called by the business owner claiming a diagnostic laptop and some tools were taken during a break-in where they believe the suspects crawled under their fence to gain access.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious on Pyrogy Dr. in Glendon on the night of Sept. 15 to contact the detachment at 780-343-7200.

Vehicles stolen

A rural landowner was taken by surprise when she found her 2017 black Dodge Ram had been stolen sometime overnight.

RCMP received the complaint on Sept. 17.

"The vehicle was locked and the keys were hanging inside of the porch of the house. The keys are also missing, so it’s possibly a break and enter in conjunction with the theft of the vehicle,” noted Hillier.

At the time it was stolen, the vehicle had Alberta license plate BWS 5203.

Later that day, around noon, police were called about the theft of a silver or grey 2008 Ford Escape. The vehicle was taken from a Bonnyville residence with the Alberta license plate BBG 6880.

Bike thefts

Over the past few weeks, Hillier said, police have been notified of bicycles being stolen in town.

On Sept. 15, a yellow 26-inch Schwinn mountain bike was taken from the front of the Bonnyville Executive Centre.

It was possibly spotted later being ridden near the Wholesale Club.
