Cold Lake RCMP are estimating that roughly $25,000 worth of items were recovered following a search warrant at a rural property in Cold Lake.
On July 3, the Cold Lake General Investigation Section (GIS) and Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit (EADRCRU) executed a search warrant in relation to a firearms investigation.
During the search of the property, officers found ammunition and gun parts.
Further investigation with the assistance of the RCMP Auto Theft Unit resulted in the recovery of two ATVs, a truck, bicycle, industrial safe, a welder, an air compressor, and various tools.
Forty four-year-old Jason Nunweiler was arrested and charged with five counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, three counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, failing to comply, and two counts of failing to report a lost firearm.
He was released and is scheduled to appear in the Cold Lake Provincial Court on July 24.
Residents evacuated while RCMP investigate firearms complaint
Residents in Sparrow Close in Cold Lake were evacuated on Monday, July 15 morning to ensure public safety while police investigated a firearms complaint.
The area was contained, and residents were asked not to post any details on social media regarding police activity.
A male was arrested later that day and residents were allowed back into their homes.
RCMP are continuing to investigate the incident. More details will be released as they become available.
Police continue to investigate robbery
The public is being encouraged to come forward with any information regarding an armed robbery on Jan. 8, 2019.
It was approximately 8:35 p.m. when a lone male walked into Clarity Cannabis in Cold Lake with a sawed-off shotgun in hand. He demanded money and marijuana from the employees before leaving with the items.
RCMP Police Dog Services responded and set-up a perimeter, however, the suspect escaped.
Cold Lake GIS have released a video, which has been posted on the Nouvelle’s Facebook page, in hopes of getting a first or second-hand witness to come forward with information.
“If you do have any information as insignificant as it may appear to you, please attend the office or call. I will personally speak to anyone with information if I am available. These types of investigations, as like building a puzzle, every piece is important whether big or small to build our case.” stated Cpl. Mackenzie-Plant in a press release.
