RCMP, fire fighters and councillors all pitch in for McHappy day

BONNYVILLE - Bonnyville officials packed the local McDonalds on May 8 to pitch in for McHappy day and raise funds to support families with sick children.

A line of police cars and fire trucks with lights on could be seen from Highway 28. Once inside, the restaurant was brimming with uniformed officers having fun with the staff and customers as they took the reins.

Staff Sgt. Sarah Parke said they had been at the restaurant all morning, working every part of the operation from drive-thru, to slinging happy meals, and taking orders.

Town of Bonnyville councillors Brian McEvoy and Kayla Blanchette also spent the morning working the drive-thru – smiles and orders in hand.

Firefighter Avery Lachambre said, “It was insane” this year, and that “normally we are the first to sell out of everything out of most of the McDonalds in the area.”

Customers and staff enjoyed their interactions with the officials.

McHappy days raised $7.5 million last year for the Ronald McDonald House Charities and local children’s charities.
