BONNYVILLE - With Christmas just days away, Bonnyville RCMP are reminding residents to be vigilant and keep some good habits in mind.

"We want to ensure that Albertans are enjoying this festive time of year while also staying safe," according to RCMP.

When holiday shopping, never leave valuables visible inside your vehicle. Also, police recommend people consider having parcels sent to a post office rather than being delivered to an unattended porch.

And like always, "Never leave your vehicle idling with the keys inside."

Snowbirds

Police also offered some tips for snowbirds who may be heading out for an extended period of time.

"Always make sure to secure your home, garage, and property before leaving on a trip," say RCMP. And, "Make arrangements for your mail." Have someone pick up mail regularly or put a pause on mail delivery.

"If possible, install motion sensor lights and security cameras on your property."

"Always be mindful about the personal information you post online. Scammers can use that information to trick you," say RCMP. And, If you’re unsure if something is a scam, contact your local police for assistance.
