About 55 people took advantage of the nice weather this past Saturday and joined in Portage College's fifth annual Have-a-Heart walk/run around Jessie Lake to raise funds for schools in Third World countries.

The walk gives Portage students the chance to organize an event, explained Portage College instructor and Student Union advisor Robin Tizzard.

Aside from the learning experience, she said it gives students the opportunity to give back to their community through a particip-action event and to give back to a less fortunate community.

Participants paid $20 to take part in the walk/run. A total of $1,200 was raised, which will be used to buy school supplies for classrooms in Third World countries.
